Application - CERAM-SPAN™ spandrel glass is designed to be installed with the ceramic frit coating glazed to the interior (#2 surface on a monolithic panel and #4 surface on an insulating glass unit), and with "back-up" material behind the panels, or against a dark background. Our process of applying ceramic paint to glass produces a minimum of pinholes and non-unifirmity of density and color application, but, as this glass is designed to be viewed from the building's exterior, fully "backed-up", we cannot assume any responsibility for non-uniformity of color appearance or density, "read-through", or pinholes which appear in spandrel panels which are used in inappropriate applications, with improper "back-up", or without "back-up". There may be an absence of ceramic color with 1/4" of one glass edge, but in usual applications, this area will be covered by the glazing channel, framing, or insulating glass spacer.
Color Characteristics - There may be slight variations in standard colors from run to run as the color of the base glass and the ceramic batch varies slightly, but production runs of a standard color will be a reasonable commercial match, one to another. See our Technical Bulletin TG-6 for important information concerning color variations in light color spandrel. In the case of custom colors extra time must be allowed for color matching as well as production. Light Colors are especially subject to "read-through" and special care should be exercised when glazing to prevent the appearance of non-uniformity of color and density. White and extremely light colors may vary slightly from run to run or even lite to lite due to color variations in the glass as well as slight differences in paint which are more noticeable in white and extremely light colors. Refer to Technical Bulletin TG-6 for important information concerning light color spandrel.
